A room that is larger than its height can have problems getting natural light. This is known as the "cave effect". Our irises contract when we are exposed to brighter lighting, so the contrast is what we see, not brightness. If a room is lit brightly on one side, it will appear darker on the other.

Mirrors are a great way to let natural light into your space. Mirrors placed parallel to windows will work almost as well as two separate windows if they are placed in the same direction. Your room will be brighter if you have more windows than necessary.
They don't have to be placed right next to windows. Mirrors can be placed in places that are blocked by walls. A mirror that reflects the sunlight can be used to solve problems in areas like a dining room that is partially blocked by a wall.

Using Light Colors
The light colors reflect more light than you might think. White walls reflect more than ninety percent of the light that hits them. Although the light that reflects off walls may have a slightly different quality to pure sunlight, it will still brighten your room and avoid the "cave effect".
Use Interior Glass
Using glass to cover walls and doors in interior areas will allow natural light to reach places it wouldn't otherwise be able. If you have a hallway that isn't getting enough natural light but is next to a room with it, you can install a window and let the light in.
